The finalists

SET Awards Night

Last night, Feisty Productions were finalists in the Scottish Enterprise Tayside Business Excellence Awards. Actually, we were runners up and it was a fantastic result. My husband shot some photos and here they are. It was a great evening with the team, for whom all thanks are due for hard work and support. So thanks again to all the Feisty team.

Your baby is ok...the Aftermath

Your baby is ok...Aftermath

The Aftermath podcast is now available and basically follows on the Telehealth theme with everyone telling a baby story. There is a fair bit of adult themed banter, the podcast bleeper was deployed once and a couple of serious points were made.

Helpwanted

A recent Riddoch Questions prompted a lot of you to get in touch and this emailer had a question for me. Has anyone got any ideas as to how to help this listener ?

I think I live in the fastest village in Scotland (60mph)?What ! you ask yourself ?

Well I live in a village called Cammachmore which is a village of over 50 houses and is directly off the A90 between Aberdeen and Stonehaven.

Cars come through the village having exited the brightly lit A90 into our very dark village (no street lights) at 60mph, legally I may add, as our speed limit is 60mph.

It sickens me everytime I listen or read about Road safety Campaigns as our children have to walk along our road to get to the School bus pick-up / drop off points.

A number of years ago there was a young school girl hit by a car traveling at 56mph, she was thrown up into the air and came back down through the sun roof, amazingly she did survive.

After the accident various residents approached the council and requested a speed limit through the village. The council always argued that because there were no streetlights then a speed limit could not be granted although I have driven through many villages in Scotland where they have no Streetlights but do have a speed limit even in Aberdeenshire. I personally ran a campaign to have streetlights installed thereby allowing us to get a speed limit.

All the way through the council put up hurdles in our way. They held ballots of the residents and demanded that we had to get over 66% of the residents in favour, not just 66% of the vote but 66% of the total number of residents. They then changed the catchment area of the village so that people who were not on the main road were included these people were either dis-interested or did not want or see the need for street lights down their single track lanes.

There were 3 ballots and we gained over 66% of the residents votes that lived on the main road but unfortunately we only gained 64% of the total 2% short and never got any streetlights and hence no speed limit. The last Ballot was around 5 years ago and I admit that I gave up totally disillusioned with politicians !

There have been a few changes in that time as there are now more houses in the village and a very busy restaurant creating more through traffic, also people / politicians have become more aware (hopefully) of increased safety measures, so I will be writing to the council this week requesting another ballot.

Last week's Riddoch Questions - what really happened.

Irvine_aftermathAfter the Riddoch Questions programme with Irvine Welsh talking about drink; the mood in the studio was Calvinistic. Technical hitches, definitions of Calvin and drink were the order of the day. Listen in and see what you think.

In case you missed it ...over on the other side

After each Riddoch Questions, we sit down and talk about how the show went. The production crew, guests and this week, visiting Napier University students sit down and pick over the programme that's just been. This week, the subject of Scottish politics, St Andrew's Day are discussed by this feisty bunch and Priscilla has an interesting take on the robustness of political debate.Click here to listen to the Aftermath discussion or you can subscribe through iTunes for free !

Yup... we are on Facebook

Facebook

I have been persuaded to try Facebook and so a Riddoch Questions group has been set up.You need to join Facebook to be able to participate. I am interested to see what we can do using this type of technology. The new ways of bringing people together to communicate is something I have more than a little interest in. Being married to a propeller head, I probably see more than my fair share of wacky techie things that only a mad brain male could love. However, let's try Facebook together and see where it takes us.

The Fife Diet

Mike_coffeeMike Small and the Fife Diet came into the studio on Friday feeling poorly. His diet seems to prevent him from including coffee so as you can see - I did the right thing. It was a great programme and you listen again over the Riddoch Questions main site . We have also recorded a wee podcast or free download called Aftermath which tries to capture eveything that just didn't quite make it on the air. It's free and as ever, I am always keen to get your constructive feedback.

Real luxury

People often imagine the Riddoch Question programme comes from some swanky studio where a team swarm over vast banks of computers and other equipment. Claire, our trusty Feisty researcher, has taken a few photos of the reality which I have posted. Hardly glamorous, I hope you will agree. Not a green room in sight.
