Andy Murray rightly got the attention yesterday but has anyone else noticed how women-friendly, equal and respectful these Olympic Games have become - in the stadium, pool, velodrome and trackside? Now the corporate nonsense has been banished from screens and the empty seats seem largely sorted the Games themselves have been a revelation. At long last male athletes can cry and women can have muscles and six packs without anyone questioning their sexuality. Some Muslim women athletes have faced criticism, boycotts and even death threats for daring to compete. Could this be the Olympics to prompt TV and government to put women's sport on the map? And with a fleeting lapse in footie domination thanks to the Rangers debacle, and the Commonwealth Games ahead, is it the ideal time for new priorities in Scotland too? I share your optimism that women's sport can gain greater support as a result of the Games.
But I have been scunnered by the inclusion of women's boxing in the contests. I have no objection to women fighting each other but the standard on display is, frankly, pathetic and an embarrassment to the sport.
