After a hectic couple of weeks away from base, the podcasting schedule has slipped. ( Not however, for those plucky souls who subscribed free of charge via iTunes ) . This week's conversation ponders how final is the trams' decision. What were the News of the World, north and south of the border, playing at? And finally, is England falling in love with Scottish devolution? Listen and find out.

Good to hear your podcast. A first for me. I am delighted to let you know that we now do have someone who is going to make a public stand against the Tram. John Carson is standing as an Independent Councillor for City Centre Ward, in the by-election on August 18th. Please see his websitehttp://www.stoptramsvotecarson.co.uk/ for full info. He is an expert on engineering for trains, and in contracts for large transport projects.
For the last three years he has been telling all who will listen that nothing about the project stacks up, and the city debt would increase a minimum of 10 fold if the project goes ahead. Essential services in Edinburgh would need to be cut back to pay for it. Schools, health services and care would suffer.
You are quite correct that cancellation costs are very unlikely to be anything like the figures quoted and it is a very serious matter that this option is not being thoroughly investigated by councillors.
As part of John's campaign team we would be delighted to discuss this further with you, and we will let you know when we are holding any public meetings.
At least having the issue raised is a step in the right direction. Thank you
