Scotland's for Peace March and Rally Parliament to Grassmarket 11.00 – 1.15pm 13 March Schedule
Scotland's for Peace is developing an institute for Peace in Scotland and campaigning against nuclear weapons. With the co-operation of Edinburgh Council, they have organised a national demonstration in Edinburgh tomorrow on 13 March, Cut Trident Not Jobs, Vote Trident Out! I'll be speaking – for the first time at an anti nuclear rally actually. But bigger attractions are Big Lec the First Minister and David Hayman who's the MC.
Come along if you have the least objection to spending billions at a time like this to hand control and jobs to the Americans. Nuclear weapons are indiscriminatory, immoral, of dubious legality and a provocation to developing nations.
Work at the parliament means arrangements are a little more complicated than usual because there are lots of barriers and huge holes in the ground, so please bear with stewards and police as they direct people arriving to the assembly area whilst avoiding pinch points.
Assembly point for participants is 11.00am at the grassy area to the park side of the public entrance of the parliament. Access to this area from Horse Wynd, Holyrood Road and the Royal Mile will be signed and there will be stewards to direct you.
Alex Salmond and the platform party will come out from the Scottish Parliament and set off up the Royal Mile at 11.30 up the Canongate, leading the march, carrying a banner, up the High Street past the City Chambers and left along George lV Bridge, then down Victoria Street to the Grassmarket.
The rally will start at 12.15 when Alex Salmond will speak, followed in order by Rev Ian Galloway (Church of Scotland), Mark Lazarowicz MP (Labour), John Barrett MP (Lib Dem), Alis Ballance, candidate, (Greens), Kate Hudson (CND Chair) Trade Union representative Mike Kirby, and broadcaster moi, chaired by activist and fab actor David Hayman. The stage is a purpose built open top bus and the rally is scheduled to close with the communal singing of Peace, Salaam, Shalom at 1.15 led by Penny Stone.
Be there or as we used to say ...be square.
