A Voice From Your Past

Leslie: If you want to celebrate strong women in public life, maybe you should start by not personally airbrushing them out of history.

I've read several interviews where you claim to have been the first female president and first non-Tory president of the student union at Oxford University. Your claims are simply not true.

There were lots and lots of earlier female presidents, the most famous being Emily Wallace, who was the first president to gain recognition for the union by the university's governing body.

There were also, incidentally, lots of non-Tory presidents before you, including the Marxist Michael Sullivan, who gave the student union its modern name -- and Emily was no Tory herself.

Shame on you for trying to aggrandize yourself by wiping out the memory of other women.
